The temperature is already dropping, but if you’d really rather not switch the heating on just yet (and you’re definitely not alone in that), a heated blanket can make all the difference. Chuck it on the bed, cuddle up on the sofa in it, drape it over your knees if you work from home – a decent electric throw is basically a portable heater you can wear, which is the dream.

The from Amazon is definitely worth a look. The single bed size is currently £34.99 down from £44.99 – that’s a 22% discount and has a rating of 4.2 stars from just over 5,000 global reviews.

Coming in a sophisticated beige (although other colours are available) it has nine settings so you’re prepared whether your house is just a bit chilly, or more on the frosty size. They are widely considered more energy efficient than space heaters and no matter how much use this one gets, you can chuck it in the washing machine and even the dryer, to keep it clean, soft and fluffy.

One happy customer said: “This heated throw is incredibly cozy and provides consistent warmth, making it perfect for chilly evenings and cold winter days. The fabric is soft and luxurious, offering both comfort and warmth. It’s large enough to cover my entire body, which is great for snuggling up on the couch or adding an extra layer of warmth to my bed. The multiple heat settings allow me to customize the temperature to my liking, ensuring I’m always comfortable.”

Another said: “This is an amazing electric blanket. Even on the lowest setting it has been enough to stay warm without putting the heating on. I chose a double bed size for my sofa – so lots of coverage and my cat is pretty smitten too. It’s lightweight, teddy bear texture on one side, and a smoother velvet finish on the other. The cord is a good length. Highly recommend!” A third couldn’t believe how soft it is: “It’s a total fluff cocoon of extreme proportions, with the cold weather coming in I figured it’d be a great impulse buy and haven’t been disappointed.”

However, one user said it might not offer the instant heat you’re craving: “This is a lovely, soft fleece, heated throw. Don’t expect to switch it on and feel the heat immediately. It does take time for the build up of heat.” And another flagged that the wires can be felt, which is useful to be aware of: “The wires are very noticeable. I’m sure it’s fine just not what I’m used to.”

Fancy a brighter heated blanket? Dunelm has the  in a lovely teal colour, costing £69. Alternatively, feel super cosy in bed with the  from Very. It’s £35 for the single bed size, and up to £60 for king size.
