Friend of Richard Kay has warned that ’s appearance on the show is not something his brother would have done.

Richard, who currently works as the Daily Mail’s Editor at large was appearing on the publication’s Palace Confidential podcast when he made the comment in response to a question about what role members of the Firm should serve.

In the course of answering his question, he touched on Harry’s current role and optics both in and in the .

He said: “Harry is treading this very difficult line between celebrity and royalty still…he looked very dignified in Lesotho but it’s a country he’s got a lot of connection with. But back in America, he’s still tried to play the royal jester, the joker when he goes on these talk shows.

“I think his brother would never do anything like that or if he did it would be much more controlled. I suspect that is still desperately searching for some kind of role.”

Richard Kay also touched on the topic of whether members of the were statesmen, stateswomen or played another function.

On this, he ruminated: “I have this issue about whether members of the are statesmen, they’re not statesman or stateswomen, they’re ceremonial figures, that’s all they are.”

His comments came after appeared on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon in a segment in which the Duke of Sussex, 40, goes through a haunted maze with the famous TV presenter.

During the clip, Harry can be heard swearing and running as he encounters the various scary and terrifying elements of the maze that gave the royal quite a fright.

One person who was critical of Harry’s TV appearance was Richard Eden who appeared alongside Richard Kay on the podcast. He commented: “It was sort of quite amusing, but … royal families should just not do light entertainment.

“It never really ends well. We’ve seen Harry before with James Corden, that was cringe-making. We’ve seen Meghan … squatting down on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, that was excruciating.

“And then if we go back further, we’ve got Prince Edward organising the grand knockout tournament.”

Whilst some have criticised Harry for going on chat shows, the prince has been doing significant humanitarian work in recent weeks, appearing at the WellChild Awards in London and working with a charity he co-founded in the 2000s in the African country of Lesotho.

The charity, known as Sentebale, was initially co-founded by and Prince Seesio as a way to help young people. Today, it supports people across both Lesotho and Botswana.

Speaking at an event in the country earlier this year, Harry remarked on the progress that had been achieved since the charity was founded.

reported that he said: “We are building a force of young advocates and when they are empowered to use their voices, the strength of their impact will be immense. You might not always realise how significant your influence is, but if it changes even one person’s life, it’s worth it.”

Harry also received praise from the kingdom’s Prime Minister Sam Matekane who said that they would be “forever grateful for his dedication”.
