Jason Knauf, who previously served as the couple’s press secretary when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were senior working royals, had once written of Meghan’s alleged treatment of staff, which reportedly included bullying and undermining behaviour – allegations the Sussexes have strongly denied.
Although this letter dates back to 2018, the allegations have resurfaced, amplifying the perception of Meghan as a challenging employer.

To counter these claims, several former employees of Meghan and spoke publicly in their defence.
Catherine St-Laurent, the former Archewell chief of staff, stated that she had “remained close” with the couple and praised them for their dedication.
Another former staffer, Josh Kettler, who worked for the Sussexes for three months, described them as “warm and dedicated.”
To combat these claims, PR experts say the couple can change the narrative by leaning into philanthropic work.

Evan Nierman, the CEO and founder of the global PR firm Red Banyan told Business Insider that it would be beneficial to the couple to lean into this side of their work more rather than continue to try in vain to progress careers in .
Another PR expert, Megan Balyk, the vice president of Jive PR + Digital, echoed this sentiment, telling Business Insider that this was an area in which Meghan excelled.
Balyk said: “I did get a chance to kind of meet Meghan from afar when I was based in Cape Town, and I just remember being so impressed with how much she was really inspiring the young females.
“If she was able to tap into that, whether she’s doing public speaking initiatives at different universities around the world and focusing more on the nonprofit side, that’s where she’s able to move the needle and make a lasting impact.”
