Taking to , one fan with the username @Due-Surround-9940 criticised John’s actions in the early episodes of the show.

They wrote: “Why didn’t John want Jamie to be Attorney General in the first season of Yellowstone?!! He deserved it!

“I don’t want to go rewatch it but it’s killing me bc I can’t remember what John’s reason was to deny his son that opportunity.

“I slightly remember him telling Beth he wanted her to run for attorney general and I slightly remember her saying no and her dad saying well find me someone.” (sic)

Other fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the Dutton patriarch’s motives, with one explaining: “John called Jamie for 2 days during the fiasco with Rip & the EPA and the deaths of the tourists/bear.

“Jamie was campaigning and Jamie’s campaign manager declined all of the calls and didn’t tell him so he could return a call, and John said he chose himself over the family/ranch.” (sic)

Another added: “Exactly. It wasn’t even Jamie’s fault. Had he known about the calls, he would’ve made time.

“Johns greatest concern was not being able to control Jamie, as him becoming Attorney General meant he’d have more power than John. So with Jamie not returning calls, and Beth whispering in John’s ear not to trust Jamie, that’s what lead to their confrontation.” (sic)

The original poster then responded: “See I remember this but I remember before all of this John kept saying he didn’t want jamie to run at all maybe I’m wrong though thank you for responding.” (sic)

Another fan added more succinctly: “Because once Jamie set his mind to the position and his campaign, he was not available to John when he needed him. That p***ed John off.” (sic)

One more fan commented: “He felt Jamie would make rulings according to whatever made him the most popular with the majority. He would no longer put the interests of the ranchers (particularly the Yellowstone) first.”

Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 is set to premiere on Sunday, November 10 on Paramount+.
