Emmerdale star breaks silence on character backlash as fans ‘could throw something at TV’

‘s Daisy Campbell, who portrays Amelia Spencer, has addressed the recent backlash from viewers regarding her character.

The actress first graced our screens as Amelia in 2011 on the popular ITV soap and has since been a part of numerous significant storylines.

Currently, she is involved with villainous Tom King (James Chase), who previously abused his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper). Despite Tom being a decade older than Amelia, he has successfully manipulated her into defending him at all costs.

Last week’s episodes saw a dramatic escalation when Belle attacked Tom with an axe in self-defence, causing fans to express their frustration at Amelia’s interference in the situation.

One viewer vented on social media: “I really don’t like Amelia anymore nasty girl.” Another commented: “She has to be the most infuriating character on the show. Wake up!”

A third chimed in and previously fumed: “I could throw something at the telly… Amelia how annoying.” However, actress Daisy has now responded to the criticism, describing her character as “vulnerable.”, reports .

“There’s a 10-year age gap between Amelia and Tom and she’s vulnerable,” Daisy confided in a recent interview with The Mirror.

Further expressing concern, she pointed out: “When I think of Amelia, she’s never happy, she’s always got sad storylines and she’s always very vulnerable.”

The actress added: “I think he’s got her where he wants her – she’s not seeing it right now because he’s an older man.” The star then warned that Tom should “tread carefully” since “Amelia’s the only one on his side right now.”

Moreover, Daisy disclosed her hopes for Amelia to see through Tom’s facade, noting: “I’m reading the scripts and I’m like, ‘Come on, you’ve got to pull through for Belle’. So hopefully we’ll see some of that.”
