Households could get £127 for moving their thermostat
State pensioners across the UK are looking for any way they can cut costs and make their money go further this winter after losing their £300 , £300 payment and seeing energy bills go up £149 as well.
And now, UK households are being told they can slash as much as £130 off their annual energy bills – just by moving the thermostat.
Most households will have a thermostat which controls the central heating. In older houses, this may be a fixed dial on the wall, usually found in the living room, and in newer or more sophisticated setups may take the form of a portable thermostat which can be moved from room to room and controlled by a phone app – think Hive or Nest smart thermostats.

But you may not realise that by moving the thermostat to a different room, you could actually save as much as £130 on your bills.
If your thermostat is in the wrong place, it could be reporting inaccurate temperatures for the rest of your house, making your heating work harder than is really necessary, adding money to your bills.
If you move your thermostat to the right place, it may show as being 1 degree C warmer.
If you place your thermostat in the hall or most used room this could save you £127 per year, per degree.
Joanna Flowers, a repair engineer at British Gas, said: “When deciding where to place your thermostat, the main thing is to ensure you don’t place it somewhere colder or warmer than the centre of your home.”If you place your thermostat in the heart of your home – we often suggest internal hallways or living rooms – it will make sure you get your desired temperature and save on bills by only using as much heating as you need.”
