A lot of New York Yankees fans don’t seem to want New York City Mayor Eric Adams supporting their team in the playoffs.
Although Adams is currently facing federal charges for conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery, that didn’t stop him from wishing the Yankees well on social media Monday evening.
“The Bombers are on a mission for their 28th ring! Good luck in the playoffs,” Adams said in a post on X, formerly called Twitter.
Even though wishing the local baseball team success in the playoffs is one of the least controversial things a politician can do, that wasn’t the case for Adams.
In fact, many respondents seemed downright bothered to find out the indicted Adams was a fan of the same baseball team as them.
And it got brutal, with one person telling the mayor to “step back” because “there aren’t any bribes available to you on this.”
The mockery included Adams’ alleged frequent flying on a Turkish airline (according to his indictment, he accepted free or heavily discounted flights from the airline).
The snark touched all the bases.
Some people thought Adams wasn’t really the Yankees fan he claimed to be.
And yes, someone even made a fake Spirit Halloween costume of Adams.
