How The CBS News Moderators Are Preparing For The Walz-Vance Faceoff

CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan will moderate tonight’s vice presidential debate.

The two journalists have been working with the network’s political team to prepare for the closely watched event, which could be the last debate before November’s election.

O’Donnell described the matchup as a “unique opportunity for the American public to see the two vice presidential candidates debate the most important issues for voters.”

“We recognize the historic nature of these debates; and our goal as moderators is to ensure a substantive and civil conversation that helps voters understand more about what can be complex policy positions,” she added.

Harris Scraps Penn. Bus Tour To Survey Storm Damage In Georgia, North Carolina

Kamala Harris will visit Georgia on Wednesday and North Carolina likely later this week, as both stakes take stock of the full impact of Hurricane Helene. Harris staffers told the Associated Press they want to make sure her visit doesn’t impede local disaster response efforts.

The vice president had originally planned to traverse Pennsylvania on a bus tour with her running mate Tim Walz on Wednesday. The tour will go on, with Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman (D) sitting in for Harris.

President Joe Biden, meanwhile, will be in North Carolina on Wednesday.
