Dame Julie Andrews, the iconic actress renowned for her role as Mary Poppins, disclosed a rare moment of frustration during the filming of the classic 1964 movie. The esteemed star, now 87, admitted to having a meltdown on set, complete with a flurry of expletives.
Her portrayal of the umbrella-toting character and the performance of timeless tunes like “A Spoon Full Of Sugar” have cemented her status across multiple generations.
Despite her image as the quintessential well-mannered and articulate Mary Poppins, it appears that the demanding stunts required for the role revealed a feistier side to Dame Julie, one that audiences have never witnessed.
In an intimate conversation with US Closer magazine, Dame Julie recounted the physical toll of some stunts, confessing: “I landed hard and was quite shaken. I have to admit, I let fly a stream of colourful expletives.”

Nevertheless, Walt Disney remained committed to her starring in the film, even delaying production until after the birth of her child.
Reflecting on how she broke the news of her pregnancy to the legendary filmmaker, she recalled: “I said, ‘Oh, Mr. Disney, I’d love to come. But I’m pregnant.’ He spoiled me.”
Her then-husband Tony Walton secured a role as a designer for the beloved movie. The couple shared one daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.
Dame Julie previously has opened up about her tumultuous personal life and professional challenges. The star married Tony in 1959 but they separated in 1968. Dame Julie went on to tie the knot with Blake Edwards in 1969 and remained married to him until his death in 2010.
