How to keeping spiders out of your home this autumn
Paul Brewster, the CEO of Flooring Hut, said: “Autumn is reportedly the most common time for spiders to enter UK homes, especially from September to October as male spiders seek mates and warmth. During this time, you will most likely notice more spiders in your home. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to keep spiders out.”
Read on for Paul’s tips on how to deter spiders from your home.
1. Regularly clean floors
Regular sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping your floors can remove any food sources or webs that might attract spiders. If you have carpets, be sure to deep clean them regularly to eliminate any eggs or pests that may have taken up residence.
2. Seal gaps and cracks
Spiders can enter homes through small gaps and cracks in flooring, walls, and baseboards. Regularly inspect your floors, especially around the edges and seal any cracks or openings. This not only helps prevent spiders but also keeps other pests out.
3. Use essential oils
Certain essential oils, like peppermint and eucalyptus, are natural spider repellents. Consider adding a few drops to your floor cleaner or creating a diluted spray to apply around baseboards and corners. This will help deter unwanted spiders and also leave your home smelling fresh.

4. Strong smells
Adding on from essential oils, strong smells are a natural way to deter spiders from entering your home. Smells such as lemon, lime, oranges, and anything with a strong citrus aroma, help repel spiders.
5. Flooring materials
Some flooring materials are less likely to harbour insects than others. For example, luxury vinyl tiles, when properly installed and maintained, provides a less hospitable environment for spiders compared to carpet. If you’re thinking of updating your flooring, this might be a good to consider.
By following these steps, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of spiders finding their way into your home this autumn.
