I tried the Costa autumn menu and have found the ultimate cosy drink for less than £5

There is a new champion autumn drink as I found the Maple Hazel Latte better than the tradional Pumpkin Spice Latte (Image: Katherine McPhillips)

Autumn is my favourite time of the year as all my favourite foods and drinks come back in season so there is no better time to indulge in a treat.

Costa has now released their new autumn menu where they have a new range of Maple Hazel drinks which you can have as a warming hot chocolate, satisfying latte or keep it cool with a refreshing iced latte.

Over the last few days, I have been going to my local Costa coffee shop for my lunch to see if the new menu is worth spending your money on.

I’m happy to say I really enjoyed this lunchtime treat as I discovered a really tasty sandwich and I think I have found the ultimate autumn drink with the new Costa latte.

Whether you are looking for a toasty hot chocolate to keep you warm or looking for a tasty sandwich to have on your lunch break, I think the new Costa menu will have something for everyone to enjoy.

My thoughts on the new Costa autumn menu

Maple Hazel Latte

I did not think anything would be able to compare to the classic pumpkin spice latte, but I was wrong as this toasty beverage is now the winner of the best cosy drink to have in autumn.

The maple and hazelnut flavouring was sweet but not overpowering to take away from the coffee but instead gave it a rich nutty flavour that I really loved.

When I ordered this coffee I was surprised to see that the drink had a cream and crunchy biscuit topping, but it was really tasty and fun to eat with a spoon.

I definitely recommend this as it is the perfect drink to warm you up in the morning, and I think I actually prefer it to the more traditional pumpkin spice latte.

Maple Hazel Hot Chocolate

This utterly indulgent hot chocolate was rich and smooth so I highly recommend anyone with a sweet tooth give it a try.

It had the same maple and hazelnut flavouring as the latte which goes just as well with chocolate as it does with coffee to give you a comforting pick-me-up on a cold autumn day.

I think children and chocolate lovers will really love this drink, but my only recommendation is that anyone who orders it should drink it quickly as I found the cream melted at a much quicker rate than with the latte.

The cream melting gave the drink a lovely creamy flavour with a frosty texture so I liked but it could be messy, so make sure to have a tray or plate underneath the drink if you are sitting inside the coffee shop.

Iced Ghost Gingerbread Biscuit

When I first spotted the new Costa ghost biscuit I was looking forward to eating it as I am a massive fan of Halloween and love this time of year due to all the spooky-themed food items.

However, I’m sad to say I was disappointed in this as while the ginger biscuit was lovely and tasty, the icing itself but very bland making it more of a trick than a treat to eat.

I felt the icing was flavourless and a little difficult to chew due to how hard it was so I would not recommend this item personally and would likely not order it again.

Brie, Bacon and Chilli Jam Panini

This new sandwich was delightful and I think it was my absolute favorite thing to order on the menu.

The toasted panini was seeded bread topped with crispy bacon, melted brie cheese and a smoky chilli jam that made this sandwich incredibly flavourful.

The creaminess of the brie really complimented the savoury bacon so that every bite was delicious.

The chilli jam was sweet with a slight spice to add flavour but was not hot at all, and was a great indulgent meal that I will definitely order again the next time I am craving a hearty lunch.

I liked the Hog Roast Toastie but it did not compared to the Brie, Bacon and Chilli Jam Panini (Image: Katherine McPhillips)

Hog Roast Toastie

This hog roast sandwich was filled with tender pork with a spiced apple glaze and caramelised onion chutney topped with cheese.

I liked this sandwich but I did not really taste the glaze or the chutney in it but it still tasted great as a cheesy bite to eat.

It was a good savoury sandwich to eat but I think it was simply okay and not as flavourful as the brie, bacon and chilli jam panini had been.

Chocolate and Salted Caramel Cake

Nothing better than a big slice of chocolate cake, and the only thing better is a cake drizzled with buttery salted caramel icing.

I really enjoyed this cake and it paired perfectly with the hot chocolate so I highly recommend ordering both together.

I am not usually someone who likes cake so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this as the cake itself was moist and with each bite you got both the rich chocolate and salty caramel flavours.

It was really tasty and next time I find myself in Costa I think I treat myself to big slice of this cake and a coffee as it goes perfectly with the new maple hazel drink collection.
