DVLA announces major car tax update to affect ‘all motorists’

has confirmed a major new which will boost convenience for all motorists across the UK. 

Officials have confirmed certain road users will now be able to tax their vehicles even quicker with a fresh update on how forms are processed. 

The changes mean motorists can renew their even if and vehicle tax reminder letter (V11).

Under the old system, drivers who had lost these documents would not have been able to tax their cars and get out on the roads. 

Instead, drivers would have had to wait up to five days for a replacement V5C certificate to arrive or get in touch with the DVLA’s Contact Centre to tax their vehicle.

According to officials, the latest update will allow motorists to and tax their vehicle at the same time.

Once drivers have applied for a V5C form, drivers will be sent directly to tax their vehicle and will not have to wait for the new ownership certificate to arrive in the post.

The DVLA has confirmed this is the first time the group has linked their online registration service with their online licensing service. 

It means customers will now be able to quickly get through the two digital channels in one seamless journey, cutting down the time it takes to send off an application.

Julie Lennard, DVLA Chief Executive, said: “We are always looking for ways to improve our digital services to provide more convenience for motorists. 

“This latest enhancement will enable customers who have misplaced or lost their V5C to get a replacement and tax their vehicle quickly and easily”.

The DVLA launched their updated online service in 2023 with the to the digital platform. 

An online account allows motorists to view and manage their driver and vehicle details in seconds at home. 

The online tool allows motorists to view details around when their MOT expires, check vehicle tax rates and renew their driving licence. 

Individuals can even choose to receive vehicle tax reminders by text or email to ensure they never miss a payment.
