The MoneySavingExpert has urged the public to act fast
People are being urged to act now if they own a HSBC Visa credit card. Martin Lewis claims around ‘900,000 people’ have a rare opportunity to opt in for a ‘scheme worth £150 on spending’ – but the deadline is at midnight.
The financial guru issued an ‘urgent’ warning on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, encouraging people to check if they are eligible for the deal. “Urgent. Do you have an HSBC Visa credit card?”, he asked.
“If so you have until midnight tonight (mon) to opt in to a 10% cashback scheme worth £150 on spending (though always pay off the card IN FULL to avoid interest).” Linked to his post was an expert-written article on the MoneySavingExpert website.
It details that fuel, groceries and transport are among the essentials covered by the £150 cashback deal across three months, but stressed that HSBC’s deadline is exactly 11.59pm on Monday 30 September.
To claim this offer, it explains that you must be an existing HSBC Visa credit card holder based in England, Scotland or Wales. That means anyone who owns a Mastercard credit card, lives in Northern Ireland or outside the UK is not eligible.

If you meet the midnight deadline, you’ll then have the chance to earn up to £50 a month on fuel, food and transport from October 1 to December 31. To claim this, it’s understood that you must make a ‘certain number’ of purchases every month.
MSE explains: “This will be either three, five, 10 or 15, depending on how much you typically spend – HSBC says it will tell you your personal threshold before you opt in. Any cashback earned will be calculated at the end of the month and credited to your credit card account on the 15th of the following month.”
Although the deal will include all fuel purchased at UK stations and ‘most’ UK-based public transport, it will not include food from Amazon Fresh, department stores or takeaways. For clarity however, you’ll be sent a list of ‘qualifying purchases’ when you opt in.
MSE adds: “If you’re eligible but miss September’s sign-up deadline to begin earning cashback from October, you should get another chance to sign up for the offer later on.”
