Households across the UK are being urged to use their washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher as much as possible today before energy bills increase.

From midnight on Tuesday, October 1, energy regulator will increase the price of a standard variable customer’s energy by 10 percent, from £1,568 to £1,717 for a typical use customer, an increase of £149.

That means, if you’re not on a fix and can’t get on one before Tuesday, you will be paying more for every single unit of energy you use from Tuesday.

It also means that everything you use will be 10 percent cheaper today, October 30.

Washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers especially are some of the most expensive items to run in the household.

According to energy firm Utilita, a typical household spends £60 a year running their washing machine but if you have children this will probably be even higher.

Utilita’s Power Price List research also shows that a tumble dryer costs £139 a year to run and a dishwasher costs £66 a year.

Because energy is cheaper today, the more of your usage you can move from tomorrow into today instead, the more you’ll save.

If you drive an electric car, the savings could be even more significant as you’ll save 10 percent on the cost of a full fill up.

Just be sure to take a meter reading at the end of Monday and again on Tuesday morning so that you can prove your ‘spike’ in energy today was accurate, and you don’t get charged some of the usage on Tuesday instead.

Money expert has said though that there are some cheap fixes still available, including from the likes of Outfox The Market and EDF which can effectively cancel out the Ofgem energy price rise.
