Mick Schumacher still believes in his dream of an F1 return
is optimistic that will continue with him as their test and reserve driver in 2025, stating that the partnership has been ‘going well’ this season. The 25-year-old is still hunting for a spot on next year’s F1 grid.
Schumacher’s journey back to the F1 grid has been a sorry tale so far. Since being axed by Haas at the end of the 2022 campaign, the German racer has been linked with a host of vacancies, including most recently at Williams and Audi, but no team have been willing to take a chance on him.
That isn’t to say that Schumacher hasn’t found success. He has made a strong impact as ’ test driver, and in a conversation with he sent a clear message to as he hunts a new contract with the Silver Arrows.
“You don’t really see what’s going on there, but it’s going well there too,” he explained. “So we’re all pretty optimistic that I’ll keep doing it.” Despite his desire to continue with , a full-time F1 return is his primary goal. Asked about his ‘Plan B’, Schumacher added: “I think I will deal with it when the time comes and Plan A doesn’t work.
“So, as I said, we stand by the fact that Plan A works and we’re trying our best to make it happen. But, as I said, yes, Plan B has to be in the back of our minds. I don’t know where that will lead yet.”

Schumacher hasn’t fully given up on his dreams of occupying a spot on the 2025 grid. With ’ contract extension at Sauber yet to be announced and Audi looking for German representatives ahead of their arrival in 2026, the son of seven-time world champion Michael is still in with a shot.
“There will be a decision in September, and that’s why we just have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks,” Schumacher stated. “And yes, I don’t think I want to say anything about what the chances are or what it looks like. In the end, time will simply give us that answer.”

The former Haas racer has career prospects outside of F1 too. has impressed Alpine bosses during his rookie World Endurance Championship campaign in 2024 and the French organisation are working hard to retain his services for another year.
Speaking to , team principal Philippe Sinault said: “We push and we say to him immediately that for us it’s a really really key point that he must stay with us. But nothing [is] in my hand. Formula One is still Formula One. We have to wait again. I hope in the short term we have some news about that.”
