Drivers could be affected by new driving rules
Motorists are set to be hit with five new from October in a major shake-up of road rules across the UK.
Major new changes will be introduced across the country from October 1 with a new appeals charter and a grace period to be launched.
Meanwhile, changes to the energy price cap could see bills rise for electric car owners with experts suggesting prices could rise by three figures.
New rules are also set to be introduced in Jersey with new HGV updates also around the corner.
All eyes will also be on Rachel Reeves’ budget at the end of October with fuel-duty and rises likely to be announced.
A new parking code of conduct will soon be launched
Parking Code of Practice – 1 October
A new private parking code of practice has been put together by the British Parking Association (BPA) and the International Parking Community (IPC).
The IPC claims the new guidelines will protect the “most vulnerable in society” by creating clarity for all road users.

New HGV rules are set to come into effect this month
Driving licence updates – 5 October
Jersey will introduce updates to their driving licence rules next week with changes to medical standards and medical certificate requirements.
The new rules will make the medical standards similar to those in the UK and EU with new guidelines around when drivers need to submit forms and driving licence validity periods.
The Government of Jersey added: “We’ll also introduce driving licence groups. Your parish will be able to ask you to take a practical driving assessment and put conditions on your driving licence.”
HGV safety rating – 28 October
HGV’s rated zero, one or two stars and which weigh over 12 tonnes must have the Progressive Safe System to drive within Greater London from this date.
This is made up of seven compulsory components including camera monitoring, blind spot information system and audible warnings.
The TfL has announced a grace period of six months running to 4 May 2025 but affected individuals must apply ahead of time.
Owners will receive additional time to install the system if their application is approved.
Budget announcements – 30 October
