Boris Johnson not asked to give Prince Harry ‘manly pep talk’ – says insider

Sources close to Buckingham Palace have denied was asked to give a “manly pep talk” in a bid to stop the Duke leaving the Royal Family.

Boris, who was the prime minister at the time “Megxit” happened, claimed in his new book Unleashed that officials from the palace and Downing Street had asked him to intervene with the Duke’s plans to move away from the UK in early 2020.

According to Boris, , which was one of Harry’s final royal engagements before leaving the country.

In his memoir, Boris said: “A ridiculous business… when they made me try to persuade Harry to stay. Kind of manly pep talk. Totally hopeless.”

However, sources close to Buckingham Palace and the meetings surrounding Harry leaving the Royal fold have since told The Telegraph that no request was made.

Although meetings were held with key members of the Royal Family to navigate the situation and try to find a new arrangement, it is believed that Boris was never asked to intervene or to try and change Harry’s mind.

While the Duke of Sussex also originally wanted to represent the overseas, it was decided that this would not be appropriate and instead he must leave all royal duties if he were to move abroad.

At the time, the late Queen released a statement on Harry and Meghan’s departure from life as working royals.

She wrote in January 2020: “Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.

“I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.

“I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.

“It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”
