‘Wilted and sad’ hydrangeas will ‘perk up fast’ with gardener’s ‘fantastic’ 15-second task
, with their large heads and attractive foliage, are some of the most cherished shrubs for home .
Yet, this splendour can quickly turn to worry when the plants begin to wilt – a clear sign that all may not be well.
Wilting isn’t immediately fatal for hydrangeas but serves as a warning bell for gardeners to take swift action.
Finding her hydrangeas wilting shortly after , Lottie Norfolk reached out on the Hydrangeas in the UK Facebook page, expressing her concern.
She wrote: “My hydrangeas are wilting. Only planted it a few days ago and watered when needed since, but it is looking very sad.” She also shared a photo showing the drooping blooms.

A lack of water is one of the most common reasons for hydrangeas to wilt
It was the unanimous opinion among fellow gardeners that the plant was parched. Ahmed Chowdhury put it plainly: “You need to water it also much more! It looks so thirsty.”
Julie Prescott reminded: “You need to water it every day because they are very thirsty plants.”
Sue Blake reassured: “They’re gasping, flood with water at ground level, and will perk up fast in a couple of seconds.”

Water hydrangeas for longer periods to perk them back up
Wendy Cripps offered a practical tip: “They need a lot more water than they are getting. Soaking the area for 15 seconds works fantastically.”
Claire Fisher penned a crucial tip: “Clue is in the name. They need tons of water till they’re established. This is after the first year.”
The following day, Lottie joined the conversation with an update and a photo showing her hydrangeas looking much healthier. Alongside the image, she remarked: “Looking a lot better now.”
Curious about her method, a fellow gardener asked what she did to “bring it back to life”, to which Lottie simply responded: “Just stood and watered it.”
To keep the plant in top condition, gardening enthusiasts recommended giving the hydrangeas a good soak daily for extended periods.
What’s more, mummer is not the only time to water these plants, it is also vital to do so in autumn and winter.
