What your sleeping position says about your personality – ‘gullible… anxious’

There are six main positions: Freefall, Starfish, Soldier, Yearner, Log, and Fetal. Whichever position tends to be your preferred way of getting some shuteye could reveal different personality traits.

Dr Bagot verified that researcher Samuel Dunkell linked “The Fetal” position to adults who tend to be more emotional and anxious.

The Fetal position is where a person curled up like a baby in the womb, so they on their side with legs and arms bent.

For another set of side – but with both legs and an arm extended – known as The Log, they are sociable but gullible.

It was scientist Chris Idzikowski who claimed The Log position is linked to extraversion and an openness to others. However, being so open to trust others off the bat could make the log seem “gullible”.

People who look as though they are reaching out with forward extended arms and legs, on their side, are known as The Yearner.

The Yearner, according to researcher Idzikowski, are open to others, but less so than The Log. Those who sleep as The Yearner are said to be cynical and suspicious of others, which may not be apparent to the people they meet.

Then there’s The Soldier, which is where you lie on your back, with legs and arms straight. Idzikowsk claimed The Soldier are quiet and reserved, but hold themselves and others to high standards.

For people who sleep in The Starfish position, they tend to value friendship, are good listeners and are quick to help other people.

The Starfish position involves laying on your back with arms up by the pillow and legs outstretched from the body. Sleep researcher Dunkell noted The Starfish are self-confident and are sensation-seeking.

Lastly, The Freefall is a stomach sleeper with hands on or around the pillow, who is regarded as brash by sleep researchers.

Typically a sensitive soul, The Freefall may feel unsettled when criticised; Dunkell noted they can be anxious, impulsive, compulsive and rigid.

Dr Bagot did verify, however, that new research in this area hasn’t been peer-reviewed, so these claims “should be taken lightly”.
