Home cooks have been told to check their cupboards after an urgent recall for a popular kitchen item was issued.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued the warning after testing identified the potential for “migration” of “heavy metal components” from the products.

A range of items from the Emba cookware line are affected, including cast iron skillets and griddles.

Also on the recall list are two of their Cookware Collections, as well as a pre-seasoned reversible cast iron griddle.

Affected items are thought to have been on sale since 2023 and could have been bought as recently as January this year.

According to the recall, anyone who has purchased one of the affected items should contact Emba Cookware directly.

They will need to provide the original order number, contact number and details of the product purchased.

Once these details have been confirmed with the company, the recall will be processed and consumers will be able to return the product.

Customers should then expect to be issued a full refund.

Local Authority Trading Standards made the decision to recall the products after discovering that they did not meet safety requirements.

The risk level has not been confirmed but the product does present a “health risk” during use.

Anyone unsure how to proceed could also check the brand’s website for further information.

A spokesperson for the OPSS said: “The products present a health risk as testing has identified potential migration of heavy metal components during use of the product.

“The products do not meet the requirements of The Materials and Articles in Contact with Food (England) Regulations 2012 or The General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

“The products have been recalled from end users. Owners should stop using affected products immediately.

“Please email Emba Cookware on [email protected] with your order number, contact number and details of the product that you purchased to initiate a recall.

“Once the product has been returned, consumers will be issued with a full refund.”

It comes days after a similar product recall for sold at Waitrose and Asda over fears they may contain glass.

Manufacturer Kelly Loves issued a recall for one batch of the product “due to a potential risk of glass contamination”.

A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency warned that 150ml jars with the batch code UK12019 may be “unsafe to eat”.

Affected customers can return the jars to their store of purchase for a full refund with no receipt required.
