When it comes to cleaning, there are a number of tips and tricks out there to get your house spotless but nothing compares to an all-natural cleaning method, and this is sure to do that. was one of the most widely used cleaning substances in Ancient Egypt. The naturally occurirng mineral found in dry lake beds does share some properties with baking soda. The Plumbworld expert explained that the “go-to” cleaning agent worked as a “natural degreaser, odor eliminator, and antibacterial scrub” and likened it to bicarbonate of soda, and salt mixed into “one powerful cleaner.”
The ancient Egyptians used it for many things, including scrubbing and surface cleaning, odor removal, glass cleaning, and laundry whitening by soaking their cloths in natron water to remove stains and brighten linens.
Egyptians also bathed with natron, using it as an early form of soap because of its antibacterial properties.
“Ancient Egyptians were ahead of their time when it came to cleaning,” says a Plumbworld spokesperson. “What’s remarkable is that their natural, chemical-free cleaning techniques are just as effective today—and they’re safer for both your home and the environment.”
