Sky News made a huge breaking news announcement as the broadcasters shared that have launched “extensive” strikes in Gaza after ceasefire talks collapsed. The attack means that a fragile truce that began in January has come to an end.

Sky News Middle East Correspondent, Alistair Bunkall, shared that Hamas officials report over 320 dead or missing in the besieged enclave. He explained: “Israeli officials have told me that the plans for these strikes were kept in a very close circle, so not to give any forewarning to Hamas, and to retain the element of surprise.”

He added: “The specific timing was a surprise but the breakdown in the ceasefire won’t come as a surprise to many people in or Gaza. In fact, I think people are surprised that the ceasfire lasted this long, especially after the formal end of phase one.”

The reporter went on to share that negotiations have seen an “unbridgeable difference of opinion between and Hamas”. “Both sides have been saying that they want to continue the ceasefire,” he said.

“Hamas have said they want to continue the ceasefire along the terms that were agreed in January but that has now been moved into phase two of a ceasfire.”

Don’t miss… [UPDATE]

He explained that phase two would see “a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, an end to he fighting and an end to ruling.” But ” is not prepared to do that”.

“Very quick Ali, it’s just been reported that the Israeli army has issued an evacuation area for some areas of Gaza, suggesting more of the same to come?”

Ali replied: “Well if you were going to have a major ground offensive and if, what I was saying earlier, proves to be accurate that it could come from all angles, then yes. I think they would look to try and force Gazan civillians into the humanitarium zones.”
