Sky News anchor Sally Lockwood has left viewers in shock as she announced her departure from the channel after a seven-year stint. Taking to social media, the presenter shared her unexpected future plans.

The TV sensation revealed: “I’m leaving my job as a presenter at Sky News. It’s been a very tough decision after 7 very happy years. I’ll be relocating to the Middle East with my family and launching a new venture in journalism, in partnership with political heavyweight @tarapalmeri. You’ll still see me on TV, but our new show will be online. Details to follow!”

Sally continued: “Thank you to the talented team at Sky for everything they’ve taught me and for all the unforgettable memories. It’s such a lucky job being trusted to tell people’s stories and to witness history firsthand. To do it with people you call friends, is an utter privilege.”

Fans have rallied around the presenter with messages of support, with one fan expressing: “Good luck with the new venture Sally.”

Another chimed in: “Shame you’re leaving but best of luck with the move and everything. Look forward to hearing more about it!” A third added: “Good luck in your future endeavours,” reports .

Another fan reminisced: “Whenever I see you, I always think of your reports from Italy at the start of . Powerful TV.”

In a surprise twist last December 2023, Sally delighted fans by announcing her pregnancy, having kept her growing bump out of the spotlight. The ex-ITN presenter expressed gratitude towards her colleagues for their unwavering support during recent months.

Sally, who became a part of the Sky team in 2017, shared that her “family” at the media giant had taken good care of her as she tried to “conceal a large belly, leggings and nausea on air.”

She praised her colleagues as the “kindest people in the biz as well as the best.”

and expressed her excitement about cheering on the Sky News team “from the sidelines” for a few months while she focuses on childbirth and raising a newborn with her husband.

In addition to English, Sally is proficient in French and Spanish. Before her current role, she served as a US correspondent for Sky News, covering major events ranging from the murder of George Floyd to the storming of Congress.

She was among the first international journalists to travel to Italy when it became the first European country to enter lockdown due to the -19 outbreak. Prior to joining Sky, Sally worked at ITN and also spent half a year working for Forces News in Afghanistan.

In May 2021, Sally paid a rare tribute to her now-husband Ronan, who had proposed six months earlier. “We’ve been separated by travel restrictions for most of the last year yet Ro’s support has been immense,” she penned.

“No matter what time zones we were on I always woke to a text, after one pretty tough day he kept the phone line open through the night and he was even mad enough to propose in November. Big shout out to loved ones behind the scenes who support us doing our crazy jobs.”
