Royal returns to royal duties after mystery illness

has returned to royal duties with a school visit . Dressed in a stylish dark ensemble, with a polo jumper and trousers, the Australian-born Danish monarch, 53, was in Vallensbaek in Denmark to see the School Force’s work with her namesake Mary Foundation at the Pilehaveskole school.

The Mary Foundation was launched by the queen in 2008 to combat social isolation, and its scope has since expanded to tackling bullying, domestic violence, and loneliness. It is the queen’s first duty since March 5, as at the last minute, she had to cancel her appearances at the Heart Association’s annual awards ceremony in Copenhagen and another event for The Mary Foundation at the University of Copenhagen the following week.

At the time the Queen of Denmark fell unwell, a spokesperson at the Danish Royal Household told local outlet B.T on March 12 that she would miss the awards ceremony due to being ill, but nothing further was disclosed.

The communications department said: “Her Majesty the Queen, like many others right now, has become ill, and therefore unfortunately cannot participate in the Heart Association’s award ceremony.”

After the news spread of the queen being unwell, she was sent kind messages. In a post on the Danish royal house’s official , wife thanked twins Alma and Ellen who had sent her a get-well drawing and flowers and apologised for not being able to make it to the Heart Association awards, where she was due to meet them.

It read: “Thank you for your thoughtfulness. What a lovely surprise to receive this bouquet and drawings, even though illness prevented me from participating in the Danish Heart Association’s event “Together for the Heart”.

“I had been looking forward to presenting the Heart Award together with the children Alma and Ellen and to meeting some of the young people who live with heart disease. Hopefully, we can meet another time.”

During the queen’s return to her work engagement, she met pupils and heard from the student council about how well-being could be improved across the school.

Both the queen and her husband, , have a busy few weeks ahead, as they will pay a state visit to France from March 31 to April 2.

The family will then ring in their eldest daughter, Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday on April 21 with multiple celebrations. After their eldest daughter’s big day, the King and Queen will hit the road again to go to Japan from April 23 to April 25.
