Ten Pound Poms fans convinced they’ve spotted Sir Keir Starmer on BBC show

BBC drama Ten Pound Poms has had its viewers doing a double-take, with several convinced they’ve caught a glimpse of Prime Minister Sir appearing in the hit TV show.

As fans settled down for the second season featuring Michelle Keegan, Warren Brown and Faye Marsay reprising their roles as Brits forging a new life Down Under after WWII, a striking resemblance couldn’t go unnoticed.

The most recent episode left audiences fixated on actor Martin Crewes, who plays Charles Milnes. His uncanny likeness to Sir Keir sparked a social media buzz.

An astounded fan took to Twitter, formerly X, sharing snapshots from the show: “Anyone watch Ten Pound Poms on tonight? I loved the first series this second series is just as good BUT did you spot ‘s cameo appearance? He’s wearing his designer glasses and everything.”

Echoing the sentiment, another viewer queried: “Is that ?” while a third clarified the mix-up tweeting: “That Charles Milne bloke looked uncannily like . #tenpoundpoms.”, reports .

The Ten Pound Poms scheme historically saw nearly one million individuals up sticks for Australia back in 1956, lured by what turned out to be empty promises as they left everything familiar behind in Britain.

In the first season, the audience met a bunch of British expats, nicknamed ‘Poms’ by the locals, as they arrived on Aussie shores in pursuit of an enhanced way of living.

The immigrants were lured with promises of a brighter future, including prospects of better employment and living conditions; however, their hopes clashed with reality upon setting foot in Australia.

In its second series, we continue to accompany the same characters as they navigate life in an unfamiliar land, with Michelle Keegan portraying nurse Kate Thorne who embarks on a quest to Australia in search of her son, Michael.

Audiences have now clicked back into gear with the eagerly-anticipated sequel series, after initially grappling with distant memories of the original cast and plotlines due to complaints about the lengthy three-year hiatus between instalments.

One puzzled viewer lamented: “So long for S2 to come out, I’ve forgotten who’s who from the 1st season,” while a second voiced similar frustrations: “Given up, going to check out millionaire instead.”

Another was left scratching their head, asking: “Who the hell is this baker? I can’t remember a damn thing,” and yet another felt equally adrift: “It’s been two years since the first season. How is anyone expected to remember anything? I’ve literally lost the plot. Disconnected, no longer invested. Too long between seasons.”
