Mirra Andreeva hands over £869K prize money and now has won more than Emma Raducanu

Mirra Andreeva defeated Aryna Sabalenka to clinch the Indian Wells title on Sunday. The 17-year-old to claim the second singles win of her remarkable career.

The Russian star earned the £869,000 ($1.12 million) top prize at Indian Wells, following on from her recent success at the Dubai Championships. Adreeva’s win in California has pushed her up to sixth in the world rankings, and the states that the teenager has already received £3.8m ($4.93m) during her career. This total surpasses British star . However, Andreeva doesn’t yet have access to her incredible winnings, as she has to wait until at least her 18th birthday.

Last month, when asked how she would spend her Dubai prize money, : “All questions to my dad. It all goes on his credit card because I don’t have my own yet. I cannot have my own bank account because I’m not 18.

“I’m hoping that he will leave me some to spend somewhere, to buy chips and Coke,” she joked. “Yeah, I don’t know. I’m going to ask him.”

Her victory at Indian Wells saw Andreeva narrowly edge past Raducanu in career prize money. The former US Open winner has earned £3.63m ($4.71m), which is £170k less than the new world No.6. Raducanu lost in the opening round at Indian Wells, but the 22-year-old will hope better times are on the horizon after teaming up with a new coach days before the tournament.

Andreeva may start accessing her riches as soon as next month. The tennis star turns 18 on April 29, which would allow her to open a bank account. However, aside from wanting to , the teenager revealed in a heartwarming admission that she had no idea how she would spend the money.

“Honestly, I don’t even know what I want. Now I think about it and I feel like I have everything I ever wanted,” after her Dubai win in February. “I won the tournament. I won it. I’ve already reached my goal that I’ve set for myself by the end of the year.

“My family is travelling with me. I have a great team. I don’t know what else I need. I feel happy and I feel this is all I need. I have no idea. I think it will all go to my dad’s credit card. Maybe he’s going to buy himself something. I have no idea.”

Andreeva became the youngest player to win a WTA 1000 title last month and doubled her career tally by triumphing in California. She will next be in action at the Miami Open on Friday.
