Makeup can be quite oily, so when it your pillowcase or duvet cover, it’s not always easy to get rid of. Experts at BunkBeds.co.uk have said that if you have stained bedding from makeup, try using shaving cream – as it can be a cheap alternative to pricey stain removers.

Adeel Ul-Haq owner of the company, said: “Makeup stains are difficult and costly to remove and you may feel you need a specialist stain remover, but we have found that shaving cream works just as well.

“Shaving cream is an excellent stain remover because it contains some of the same ingredients that are found in the more expensive stain removers at a fraction of the cost.”

is selling bottles of shaving cream for £1, making this a very affordable trick.

Don’t miss… [UPDATE]

Shaving cream can be used as a stain remover because of its chemical composition. It contains surfactants, which are molecules that attract water and oils. Because of this, shaving cream is a great product for removing stains in bedding.

Adeel said: “The molecules that attract oils bind with the oils, waxes and pigments in your makeup like those found in foundations, lipsticks and mascaras.

“The molecules that are attracted to water then help lift the stain from your bedding when the stain is rinsed with water.”

“Shaving cream also contains propellants and emulsifiers which create a lather that can penetrate fabric fibres to loosen trapped makeup particles.

“Shaving cream also has a neutral or slightly alkaline pH which is less harsh than stain removers which makes it safer for your sheets and bedding.”

How to clean with shaving foam

First, you need to need to dampen the area where the stain is with a cloth, then apply a small amount of shaving cream and work it into the fabric with your cloth. Do this for 10-15 minutes.

Afterwards, rinse the area with cold water and wash away any of the leftover shaving cream.  The stain should now be gone – and if it hasn’t, repeat the process until it has.

The quicker you act, the less chance the stain has to embed in your fabrics. So for the best results, you should apply the shaving foam as soon as possible.
