Ms Vanderhoof writes that when the chef and Meghan make a dry rub for Korean fried chicken and it’s time to add powdered monosodium glutamate, otherwise known as MSG, the duchess “hesitates a bit”.
MSG is a salt-like flavour enhancer used to bring out the umami flavours in food and is regularly used in Asian dishes.
Meghan says in the show: “A little bit of MSG? I don’t know enough about it. I just remember there came a time in the ’90s or early 2000s when you were ordering food—’no MSG’. I don’t quite know why that happened.”
Mr Choi replies regarding the “diversifying food scene” and what counts as “healthy or harmful”: “Do you want to know the real reason? It was racist. It was racist against Asians.
“It was a thing about Chinese restaurants. What we have now is this more democratic food culture where information can be accessed.

“You don’t see any young people saying MSG gets you sick anymore.”
The writer notes: “It’s a pointed moment in a show otherwise light on disclosure, but it stuck with me.
Elsewhere, Ms Vanderhoof praises the show and described it as a “success” as it “reboots the California lifestyle for our chaotic era”.
She says: “Throughout With Love, Meghan, I got the sense that she is trying to reboot her wellness sensibility for a new era.
“The duchess embraces real dessert, talks nostalgically of fast food, and pushes back against the orthorexia of old-school Californian dining to embrace something more modern and multicultural.”
Meghan’s new show has received mixed reviews from fans but was mostly savaged by critics. However, it managed to climb in ‘s global Top 10 list with 2.6million views after one week of being released, while it was also renewed for a second season, which is expected to drop this autumn.
