Gene Hackman’s Wife Called Doctor 1 Day After Her Supposed Death Date

New details in the death of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, show that she called a doctor one day after her previously assumed death date.

Although investigators initially pegged Arakawa’s death as occurring on or around Feb. 11 from hantavirus ― more than two weeks before her body was found ― she reportedly called Cloudberry Health, a medical concierge service in the couple’s hometown of Santa Fe, on the morning of Feb. 12.

Dr. Josiah Child, a former emergency care specialist who runs the service, told the Daily Mail that Arakawa first called weeks before her death about getting an electrocardiogram for Hackman. She also made an appointment for herself for Feb. 12, for something Child said was “unrelated to anything respiratory.”

But on Feb. 10, she called to cancel her own appointment, saying her husband was not well, according to Child.

Arakawa then reportedly called back once more, on the morning of Feb. 12, and was told to come in that afternoon.

“We made her an appointment, but she never showed up,” Child said. “She did not show any symptoms of respiratory distress. The appointment wasn’t for anything related to hantavirus. We tried calling her a couple of times with no reply.”

Child’s office did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.

Officials at Cloudberry Health did confirm with ABC News that Arakawa had contacted the service to inquire about “esoteric treatment” on Feb. 12 and had not noted signs of breathing issues or distress.

Hackman, a two-time Oscar winner, and Arakawa, a classical pianist, were found dead Feb. 26 in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was 95 and she was 65.

Although no foul play was suspected, it appeared as if the couple had been dead for days.

In addition, one of the couple’s three dogs was also found dead, with dehydration and starvation suspected as the cause of its death.
