was interrupted for a major “breaking news” interview as MP Mike Amesbury announced his resignation from the Labour Party after an attack on a constituent. In the emotional interview, Mike shared that his life is a “living nightmare”.

He also admitted he has been “rightfully” punished for his actions and shared he is “sincerely sorry” The former Labour MP revealed that he now has to wear an “alcohol tag for 120 days” as he was handed a 10-week jail sentence for punching a constituent.

Amesbury, 55, who was filmed punching a gentleman at a taxi rank last year repeatedly, shared: “I felt threatened, I should have walked away. I don’t recognise myself. You know, the video clip is something I have had to watch time and time again.

“I have paid the price. I’ve been punished, and rightfully so. I hope that I learn from this. I condemn violence.

“I am so sincerely sorry to Mr Fellows, his family, my family, my constituents. It is like a living nightmare.”

Amesbury has also claimed in the past that he had been dealing with death threats and a stalker before he punched Fellows – both of which raised his “anxiety levels.”

Amesbury’s departure has triggered a by-election where Labour is likely to face a strong challenge from Reform UK.

Reform candidate Jason Moorcroft finished second to Amesbury at the General Election and kicked off the campaign to force the disgraced MP to resign.

Reform looked to be gearing up for a potential by-election as they pushed for Amesbury’s regination.

Meanwhile Labour has selected a candidate to run in the Runcorn and Helsby by-election to replace Amesbury, as they announced Cheshire West & Chester councillor Karen Shore will run as their candidate.

“Karen Shore will be a champion for the people of Runcorn and Helsby,” Sir said.

“She’s local and her experience as a teacher and serving the community as a councillor will give people a strong voice in the House of Commons. That’s what people in Runcorn and Helsby deserve in their Member of Parliament.”
