may be able to reside in grand royal palaces; however, sometimes, there really is no place like home. This week, King Charles made headlines after it was reported to Queen Camilla’s country retreat in Wiltshire, which she has owned for over three decades.

The Queen, 77, bought her private home after her divorce from Andrew Parker-Bowles in 1994 and has kept it all these years, despite going on to marry King Charles when he was the Prince of Wales in 2005. While it is not her main home, with the King and Queen spending a lot of time at their Highgrove home just 15 minutes away, it is believed to be a special place for Her Majesty to go and relax. The home is also reportedly a slice of normality for Camilla, where she can enjoy time away from the royal limelight.

The Queen spends a lot of time at her Ray Mill home with her grandchildren. After living there permanently between 1996 and 2003, Camilla’s possessions and home comforts are scattered throughout the property.

In addition to this, the retreat also has a number of great features for Her Majesty to enjoy, including an outdoor swimming pool, terrace, stables for her horses, large gardens, and a river.

The house is also so beautiful that it hosted her daughter Laura Lopes’ wedding reception in 2006.

While not much is known about the home or Camilla’s time there, a source previously told the Express that it is a place where the Queen can be herself.

The source said: “At Ray Mill she can sit down with a big G&T, kick off her shoes and watch , which Charles loathes.”

They continued: “She also doesn’t have to bother about how the place looks – Charles is so fussy about tidiness, while she leaves her stuff all over the place. She doesn’t need her cushions plumped all the time.”

It is believed that King Charles brought the neighbouring property to Camilla’s country home in recent weeks to ensure Camilla’s peace at the house is not disrupted. This came after fears the property next to the Queen’s could have become a wedding venue.

A royal source : “The new arrangement is a pragmatic solution, being both a sound financial investment and a way of maintaining Her Majesty’s privacy, protection and continued enjoyment of her much-loved home, without any public funds being used.”
