‘I work on A Place in the Sun – here’s a grim secret viewers don’t notice’

star shared a behind-the-scenes secret that viewers won’t be aware of. The presenter, 43, has been a regular face on the property hunting show since she joined the cast in 2018.

Presenters such as Jean, Laura Hamilton and Jasmine Harman are flown to exotic locations and tasked with finding house hunters their perfect home abroad. But while this seems glamorous, Jean revealed she has to “wear the same outfits for six days straight” during filming.

Speaking to , Jean joked: “If there was a thing called ‘smell-o-vision’, we would not be on air. Because we want each show to look like everything happens in one day, we all wear the same outfits for six days straight. So the big secret of the show is that we stink.”

The Scottish presenter also revealed that they grow extremely close to the show’s participants – something viewers also don’t get to see.

As the presenters spend almost a week with house hunters and the crew, they often head out for a “party” after filming.

Jean explained: “We grow close during those five or six days, and we love a party. If you finish work at 5pm on a beach, there’s no way you’re heading back to your hotel room. We often go for dinner and a few drinks. I’ve made good friends over the years.

She continued: “There was one American couple in particular, Ryan and Steve, who were buying a place in Gran Canaria. They put in an offer on a property, so we went out for cocktails to celebrate. Let’s just say the morning after wasn’t fun, and watching it back was worse.”

Jean revealed she received a text from her sister telling her she “didn’t look good” in one particular scene during the episode.

Last year, , a condition that affects the eyes’ ability to focus on close objects.

The property expert admitted she had been in denial about her deteriorating vision for years before finally seeking help from an optician.

Following her diagnosis, Jean confessed: “I can honestly say it’s been life-changing.” She also shared her initial reluctance to admit she needed glasses, attributing it to a resistance against ageing.

“I’m not entirely sure why it took me so long to admit I needed glasses. I suppose it’s partly to do with fighting the ageing process, but I’ve accepted that I’m getting older and my vision deteriorating is part of that,” she said in her Sunday Mail column.
