The latest show 48 hours of battering parts of Britain in a few days’ time. Maps generated by WX Charts today (March 15) suggest snow will fall across spots in the Pennines, Scottish Highlands, Cumbria and from 6am on Monday, March 24.

Snow continues until 6am on Wednesday, March 26, with depths up to 3cm expected in the Highlands, according to WX Charts. The maps show a mix of snow and showers for much of the UK during the same period. While the maps show snow falling, they also suggest it won’t lie very deep on the ground, with 4cm possible overnight in parts of the Highlands on Tuesday, March 24. Temperatures look set to languish in single figures over the same period, with -2C in central Scotland, 3C in Newcastle, 5C in Birmingham and 6C in Southampton at midnight on March 26.

However, the mercury looks set to rise into double figures by the weekend (March 29-30), according to WX Charts. It suggests 14C is possible in East Anglia.

While WX Charts’ maps show snow later this month, the ‘s long range forecast (March 19-28) doesn’t. It forecasts high pressure centred to the east of the UK initially, with “a good deal” of fine, dry and reasonably sunny weather.

The forecast adds that temperatures are expected to rise to well above average in some parts of the country, though it warns of a gradual transition to less settled conditions from west to east, as low pressure prevails.

This would bring an increasing chance of rain or showers by the weekend and into the last week of March. Temperatures will initially be above average, but likely trend back closer to normal. With more clouds around, the risk of frost will be reduced to some extent, according to the .

Netweather’s monthly forecast says March 24-30 will probably be warmer and drier than average overall, with a warm, dry start to that week. This forecaster also makes no mention of snow.

It adds: “Sunshine will probably end up near normal in most southern and eastern parts of Britain and above normal in the north-west.”
