are strongly ingrained in British society and have long served as a central community meeting point. They’re often a place for people to connect, raise a glass of their favourite tipple and socialise with friends. There are roughly 45,350 pubs in the UK, all offering their unique charm and often attracting a host of visitors from both locally and further afield.
However, one pub that’s located in – the Rose & Crown – has been found to be the most Instagrammable of them and has been dubbed “Britain’s quirkiest” thanks to its time capsule theme. The new research by shows that the establishment in Huish Episcopi boasted 7,002 hashtags.
The pub was built in 1640 and has remained in the same family for over 150 years. The establishment has been preserved with minimal changes to its layout, decor, and overall atmosphere. This Grade II listed, 17th-century thatched inn is known locally as “Eli’s”, after the former owner, Eli Scott, took over the family pub in 1920.

This beautiful thatched building is complete with flagstone floors but, unusually, has no bar.
The hub of the pub is the rare counterless flagstoned taproom which is one of only eight left in the UK and leads out to four cosy parlours – inlcuding the Piano room, West room, Fire room and Men’s kitchen. The Rose & Crown offers a great selection of real ales, craft beers and farmhouse ciders.
There’s also an inviting beer garden outside with a pool table, skittle alley and jukebox found inside with regular live music and quiz night events on offer.
One review on TripAdvisor said: “For the first time visitor, it can be quite daunting, as to go to different areas of the inn you have to walk through what feels like the working areas of it but that adds to its charm.”
They added: “It’s quirky in a great way.”
