Miss Marple actress Geraldine McEwan, who played Agatha Christie’s detective, left an eye-watering sum in her will at the time of her death in January 2015. She worked for many years in theatre, television and films, sharing the stage with Laurence Olivier, Albert Finney and other top British stars.
McEwan, who lived in Barnes, South-West London, appeared in the first three series of Marple on ITV between 2004 and 2008. Details of the late star’s will have been unearthed as she left a staggering amount to her loved ones. The on-screen star left the majority of her estate to her two children, son Greg and daughter Claudia.

The Agatha Christie detective left close to £3million in her will to be shared between her children.
She also left £44,000 to be shared between friends and relatives, including her seven grandchildren.
Her character, Jane Marple, lived in the fictional village of St Mary Mead and helped police solve a series of grisly murders.
The show drew in nine million viewers and featured big names for each episode, including Richard E. Grant, Dan Stevens, Ian Richardson, Timothy Dalton, Joan Collins and Herbert Lom.

McEwan announced she was retiring from the role of Miss Marple in 2008.
She said at the time: “Of course, it is terribly disappointing to have to pass the baton on, but it has been a marvellous experience to inhabit this role for the last few years.
“I am sure that my successor, whomever she may be, will thoroughly enjoy her time with the production team – and with the extraordinarily talented group of writers and actors that they come up with for each series.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work on Miss Marple since 2003, and I leave with fond memories.”
McEwan’s husband Hugh Cruttwell, the former principal of acting school Rada, died in 2002.
