Louis Rees-Zammit could make a sensational return to Welsh rugby, with the WRU’s interim performance director Huw Bevan declaring he’d be greeted “with open arms” should he decide to leave American football behind.

The ex-rugby star caused a stir in January last year when he swapped the oval ball for an NFL career, initially signing with the Kansas City Chiefs and later joining the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad.

Despite recently penning a new deal with the Jaguars, Bevan has signalled that Rees-Zammit would always be welcome back to Wales, as revealed in a MailOnline interview.

“If that does come to an end, he’s of an age where he could make a significant contribution to us going forward,” Bevan stated, leaving the door wide open for a potential rugby reunion.

In other news, a rugby pundit has faced court proceedings over allegations of sexual assault. Danika Priim, a former England rugby league player turned TV analyst, stood before Leeds Crown Court, pleading not guilty to a charge related to an incident at Horsforth Cricket Club on July 22, 2022, reports .

The 40 year old ex-rugby league star and former Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos prop was released on bail pending her three-day trial commencing on November 16, 2026.

The accused, who proudly represented England in the 2017 World Cup before retiring from the sport in 2021 and then becoming a TV pundit, chose not to make any statements while leaving the courtroom from her home in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

As Wales prepares to confront formidable opponents England in the upcoming Guinness Six Nations match this Saturday, interim head coach Matt Sherratt emphasizes the importance of striking the right “balance between heart and brain”.

Following his unexpected appointment in place of Warren Gatland who left mid-tournament, Sherratt’s short tenure covering three matches will culminate with the highly-anticipated game at the Principality Stadium.

A victory against England isn’t just about halting a disappointingly long 16-test defeat streak that began at the 2023 World Cup; for Sherratt, it’s far more meaningful: “I would love to sign off (with a win), not for me but for the players and staff who have been here for a long time. It would be huge for them,” he conveyed his team-centric outlook.

Preparing for a high-stakes emotional battle, Sherratt understands the value of controlled passion: “There will be emotion on Saturday. It is getting that balance between heart and brain. There will be stacks of heart. We need to get our game on the pitch.”

He concluded with the potential impact of such a win: “If that win comes, it would give everyone a massive lift, especially against England at home.

“On Monday we put a slide up with the (Principality) stadium, the date and time of the game. Everything has been leading up to Saturday. It won’t need an emotional build-up.

“It is the end of a seven-week camp and I have only been here for three weeks. It is about not overloading them mentally, as that will take away some of their energy.

“Then it is how much time we actually need on the pitch. Emotionally, they will be there but it is important physically as well that they have got bags of energy in their legs.”
