The UK Statistics Authority (UKSA) revealed in February that almost a million people in England can’t speak English well or at all.

On the national picture, Reform UK’s Deputy Leader told MailOnline that an influx of millions of new people made integration into the British way of life “almost impossible” and that the statistics show it.

Brits see language ability as one sign of integration, according to The Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford.

It notes that migrants themselves view language as important. The Observatory reports that in 2021 nine million migrants living in England and Wales reported speaking English without difficulty.

Only 1% of migrants said they couldn’t speak English at all, a total of 142,000, according to The Migration Observatory.

Analysis of the 2021 England and Wales Census by the Observatory shows that migrants’ language abilities improve over time and through exposure.

A total of 8% of those who moved to Britain over 20 years ago couldn’t speak English well or at all, compared with 17% of those who had arrived within the previous two years. The age at migration is another “critical factor” in explaining how well migrants learn English because young children learn languages faster and with less effort than adults.

Of North Evington and Rowlatts Hill’s total population in 2021, 6,825 identified English as their main language. Another 1,164 reported that their main language isn’t English, but they can speak it very well, while 1,387 said they can speak it well despite it not being their main tongue.

Just over a thousand (1,002) said they could not speak English well and 349 couldn’t speak the language at all, according to the 2021 Census.
