The Chase fans issue same complaint after spotting ‘insane’ detail minutes into show

The Chase viewers expressed their exasperation when one contestant’s daring move led to an early exit from Friday’s (March 14) episode.

On the latest instalment of the popular ITV quiz show, contestants Pete, Ellie, Zainudeen, and Yvonne tried their luck against formidable chaser Shaun Wallace, aka The Dark Destroyer, for a chance at a cash prize.

Clinical hypnotherapist Pete, aged 46, was the first up, impressing with a £3,000 haul in the cash builder round. Against his team’s advice to play it safe, Pete took a leap for the lofty £25,000 high offer.

Host Bradley Walsh praised the gutsy choice, saying: “I don’t blame you, it would be mad not to,” while Shaun encouraged him: “Why not.”

Bradley then lamented the common reluctance to chase the higher sums, saying, “I wish more people would go for it, I really do,” reports .

However, Pete’s gamble didn’t pay off, as he faltered on a Calamity Jane question and quickly stumbled on the next question, resulting in his swift departure by the Dark Destroyer himself.

“Game over, but you know what, I would have gone for it myself. That’s the way it is,” Bradley sympathised after the elimination.

Fans vented their frustrations on social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), with one disgruntled viewer noting the rapid departure: “First contestant out and not even 10 minutes into the programme,” and another ruefully commenting: “That was a calamity.

“I usually love when people go high, but on this occasion that choice was a huge waste of time,” one viewer remarked, clearly unimpressed, while another chimed in with equal frustration: “What on earth has happened to The Chase? I have had enough!”

Their disgruntlement was shared by another, who lamented: “Seat 1 out with all questions wrong? And a £3K cash builder! What a poor contestant! Why are ITV casting people like him?”

In contrast, Pete’s bold move didn’t go unnoticed, and some fans backed his daring decision. One admirer applauded: “Bye Pete. Fair play going for it though.”

While another supporter commented on the fleeting moment, saying: “That was short. Good for him going for it though.”

Despite Pete bowing out sooner than expected, the remaining trio navigated their way to the final showdown. Unfortunately, their collective effort fell short against the Dark Destroyer.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1
