“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert spotted an awkward moment during President Donald Trump’s White House meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin earlier this week.
That came when a reporter asked Trump to name his favorite Irishman.
“Trump did have some kind words for one particular Irishman who he could almost name,” Colbert said, then rolled footage of a stumped Trump.
“Oh there’s so many are you kidding me?” he said. “I do happen to like your fighter. He’s got the best tattoos I’ve ever seen.”
He was describing Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, but couldn’t name him until a reporter did.
“He clearly could not think of a single Irish person,” Colbert said, then broke out his impression of Trump not quite naming people from Ireland.
“There’s Shaquille O’Neil, big guy. Kathy Ireland, I love Kathy, Kathy Ireland. Of course, the green M&M,” Colbert said.
