Sky Broadband customers are being informed by the company about the potential need to replace their hubs. Customers with older-style equipment have been receiving an email detailing the necessary steps.
The email stated: “At Sky we’re always looking to bring the latest innovative technology to our customers. As we do this, we’re always making improvements to our infrastructure to enhance both its reliability and performance.
“In 2022, the UK government published a new security framework to make the UK’s telecommunications infrastructure more resilient. In line with government guidance, we wanted to let you know while your hub continues to keep you connected to the internet, it no longer receives service and security updates. To review your options, including how to update or change your hub, visit our portal . You’ll need to have your Sky ID and password ready to log in.”
The linked page explains that older-style Sky Hubs are now no longer receiving service and security updates. Sky Q Hubs, meanwhile, will cease getting updates on December 31, 2025.
Customers can request an updated hub, free of charge, using their My Sky accounts via the aforementioned portal page. It should arrive between one and two weeks from ordering, according to Sky.

Alternatively, Sky said users could retain their existing hub, but enhance security by changing their hub admin password. The steps to do so are outlined below.
Connect your device, such as a laptop or mobile, to your hub via WiFi or an Ethernet cable.
On your device, launch a web browser like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Apple Safari.
In the URL bar, type 192.168. 0.1.
Click on the Maintenance tab. A sign-in box will appear.

If you haven’t altered these before, they will be:
Username: admin
Password: sky
Under the ‘Maintenance’ tab, click on Set Password.
Verify your old password and input a new one.
Old password: sky.
Your new password can be 1 – 16 characters long and can include letters, numbers and special characters. It is case sensitive, so Sky recommends using both upper and lower case letters.
