Rod Stewart gives emotional career update after cancelling shows in health battle

exclaimed, “what a ride it’s been!” as he was honoured in Las Vegas to mark his 200th show in the city. The 80-year-old music legend returned to the entertainment mecca for a series of shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Wednesday (March 12) and hit the landmark. He was originally scheduled to reach the milestone in August 2024 but .

To mark the occassion the dad of eight celebrated on stage where he was presented with a gold plaque in the shape of a record by Regional President of Caesars Entertainment Sean McBurney who was accompanied by two Las Vegas showgirls. A tray of his own brand Wolfie’s Whisky was also brought out, and Rod did a shot on stage. Rod later took to to post pictures of the occasion. Captioning the post he wrote: “Wow! My 200th Las Vegas residency show at @colosseumatcp —absolutely incredible! What a ride it’s been!”

Rod’s latest residency entitled the Encore Shows will run until June 8. reported that throughout the 100-minute show he gave the fans what they wanted belting out his classic hits such as Forever Young, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? and Tonight’s the Night.

He also includes some swing tracks and covers in his set, which is different to the one he performed during his previous residency.

He told the audience at the opening night, “I’m a bit nervous,” before then joking 15 minutes in, “Now I know what I’m doing.”

During the performance he also gave the audience an insight into the story behind two of his most famous songs Maggie May and You Wear It Well.

Admitting they sound similar he explained: “After Maggie May, the record company said, ‘Can you write us a No. 1 like Maggie May? So I wrote Wear it Well, but people love it. You loved it. I loved it,” he said.

While Rod’s accomplishment of 200 shows is impressive, he has a long way to go to catch up with who racked up 636 Las Vegas performances during his time working there.

However his record was beaten by Barry Manilow who played his 637th show at the Westgate during the weekend of September 21-23, 2023.

With an ongoing residency in the venue Barry is now well on his way to hitting a remarkable 700 shows.
