Officials at a US airport said a private plane crashed near the air hub on Friday morning. Pitt-Greenville Airport, in , is used for general aviation as well as commuter service by American Airlines. 

The crash reportedly prompted the closure of a road near the air hub, W Belvoir Road. The entrance to PGV & Memorial Drive in Greenville are also closed, according to local reports. The Greenville Police Department said they are providing scene control in the area of the incident.

Small private plane involved in crash

A small private plane was reportedly involved in the crash. Emergency responders are now at the scene.

Police issue first update

The Greenville Police Department issued a statement following early reports of a crash. 

They confirmed a private plane crash was involved in the incident.

The message, shared on X, read: “ALERT: GPD and GFR are providing scene control of a private plane crash in the area of N. Memorial Dr and Belvoir Road.

“N. Memorial is expected to be closed for the remainder of the day. Waiting on NTSB response. Media is asked to stage in the Pitt-Greenville Airport parking lot.”
