viewers have expressed concern for a “confused and awkward” after a live interview left them asking “what’s wrong with him?”. The ‘s evening program featured the A-lister, 81, on Thursday (March 13) alongside presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo, as well as other stars including Debra Messing. During the instalment, De Niro was asked to give advice to 15-year-old Owen Cooper, who stars in the new drama, Adolescence.

The Ezra superstar offered guidance to the young actor, saying: “Well, I think he’s off to a good start, that’s the main thing. And just keep at it. Keep at it! Do…I mean he’s there. Now it’s common sense, what to do, what not to do. Try to stay out of trouble and all that stuff and you’ll do well. You’ll do well!” However, his seemingly disconnected demeanour raised eyebrows among some viewers who aired their concerns on social media.

Reactions ranged from confused to critical. One viewer posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Had to pause Robert De Niro giving career advice so I can fast forward it, awkward as sh*** #Theoneshow.”

Another lamented: “What’s wrong with Robert de Niro he looks so confused #TheOneShow.”

Comments like: “Well I watched it, De Niro was disinterested and didn’t want to be there,” and: “Bobby seem engaged… Not!! #theoneshow,” flooded online platforms, suggesting the actor appeared less than enthused about offering advice and being on the TV segment at all.

However, the star had to make a quick exit from the One set in order to make his way to the European Premiere of the new flick.

He walked the red carpet at the star-studded gala at the Curzon in London’s Mayfair. The A-lister appeared alongside his co-star at the special screening of The Alto Knights.

In the movie, the actor plays not one but two different characters who were childhood friends, but become rivals.

He told the presenters: “The idea of playing the two different characters was intriguing to me. They’re like two different sides of the same coin.”

This follows De Niro’s appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday to promote his series Zero Day. During this appearance, he discussed the children’s programming he watches with his daughter Gia, born in April 2023.

“Well, I watch Miss Rachel, The Wiggles, Blippy, and sometimes we watch episodes where they all work together,” De Niro shared.

The chat had its lighter moments too. Host Seth Meyers quipped: “That’s the way I felt when I saw Heat,” referring to the 1995 Michael Mann classic that featured De Niro alongside Al Pacino.

De Niro responded with a joke of his own: “That’s what I felt when I saw Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” referring to the 1948 Universal Pictures classic.
