Hollywood A-lister Margot Robbie has reportedly snapped up a quaint cottage in a quiet corner of Scotland – with a very royal neighbour. The Wolf of Wall Street star , a stone’s throw away from the King’s private estate in Balmoral to enjoy some much-needed “thinking time”.
Nestling close to Braemar village in Aberdeenshire, a spot famous for its biting temperatures and lofty altitude within the British Isles, this idyllic location has attracted a host of celebrities, all drawn by the allure of the opulent Fife Arms hotel, pristinely managed by Swiss art power-couple Iwan and Manuela Wirth.
The picturesque hamlet has become quite the celebrity magnet; with pop sensation Rita Ora, the esteemed Dame Judi Dench, screen favourite James Nesbitt, and Texas band leader Sharleen Spiteri all gracing the locale recently, alongside Robbie and Royal Family members.

At 34, the Barbie star has Scottish heritage through her father Doug Robbie – a celebrated sugar baron originating from Scotland, now established in Queensland. Despite these ties, sightings of Robbie in Braemar have been scant since early last year, leading some residents to say they’re concerned the village has “changed for the worse”.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, one local said: “The demographic has changed completely and it no longer feels like a village for us. I know Barbie is moving into the cottage down the road, which is exciting, but I’m not sure how good it will be for the village. I heard she’d bought it for ‘thinking time’.”

Braemar Village Hall’s chairman, John Macpherson, has acknowledged the mixed blessings brought by The Fife Arms. He said : “The Fife Arms is good from a tourism point of view, and it has brought in a high-spending clientele, but Wirth’s company has bought up properties for its staff and locals have been priced out the market.”
Ms Robbie recounted a comical experience she had during a prior visit to Braemar. She said: “I was in a pub in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and I listened for about 30 minutes to a group of guys on a bachelor party discussing the Barbie movie not knowing that I was sitting two or three feet away from them.

“It was just truly fascinating. There were people at the table who refused to see the Barbie movie. One guy was like, ‘Dude, it is a cultural moment, don’t you want to be a part of culture?’ And the other guy was like, ‘I’ll never see it,’ and by the end he did want to see it. It was a whole thing.
“I wasn’t going to go up to them but then I did. At the last minute as I was walking out I went to their table and I went ‘Thank you for seeing the Barbie movie’. It was very funny, they lost it. It took a full minute for them to realise and I was practically out the door and they went ‘Ohhhh’.”
