The quaint UK harbour town with ‘one of Britain’s prettiest high streets’

With the days finally getting longer, many Britons will be eyeing up and for the months ahead.

And while some will be in need of the kind of R&R only a coastal resort can offer, there are plenty of options closer to home for restless daytrippers.

One such is example is a beautiful harbour town in Hampshire hailed for its “sensational” seafood, and which also boasts a high street recently named as one of the nation’s best.

Lymington in the New Forest got a mention in ‘ list of the nation’s seven “loveliest” streets for shopping this summer, with the outlet hailing the “best-of-both-worlds high street”, home to the “architectural grandeur of a market town” as well as “seaside souvenir shops and the smell of the ocean”

The bustling high street hosts an array of independent retailers and upscale boutiques with an historic Saturday market which dates back to the 13th century.

The street runs down all the way down to Lymington River, where those in the market for a high-end British cuisine can visit one of the town’s top rated dining experiences, The Elderflower.

The describes it in its most recent review as “amiably run”, noting that the “chef’s experience shines through in the attractively presented dishes on the multi-course tasting menu, which shine thanks to the sourcing of excellent ingredients”.

A short distance away in Milford-on-Sea is The Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant which doubles as a traditional fishmonger and has a five-star rating on TripAdvisor from more than 1,200 reviews.

One visitor writing last month said: “I travel to world but can honestly sat have not found a better dining experience”, adding that the chef “is a creative magician”.

They recommended trying the tasting menu paired with wines, which they said was “simply sensational”.

Other highlights include the Lymington Sea Water Baths and Normandy Marsh, a birdwatcher’s paradise that features a hidden lagoon which forms part of the Keyhaven Nature Reserve.
