Donald Trump may attempt to style himself as the “crypto president” but Seth Meyers on Wednesday flagged a moment that may put that boast to the test.
As Trump and top ally Elon Musk palled around Tuesday outside the White House promoting Musk’s Tesla cars, the president promised to buy one of the vehicles ― and said he’d pay for it with a check.
“I do it the old-fashioned… I give checks. I like checks, you know?” Trump told reporters, adding: “I like a check better than this modern system of, all of a sudden there’s money in your account, nobody knows…”
Meyers found the statement funny.
“So fun to see the crypto president just fully admit he’s still a check guy,” he cracked, before mimicking Trump signing a check: “Bitcoin, it’s the future, now real quick. What day is it? I’ve got to mail this before they cut off the cable.”
Meyers also had an idea for a vanity plate acronym: “Making Incredible Changes in Reviving the Office of the President.”
“MICRO P” would “look great on the back of a Tesla,” he joked.
