ex Britt Ekland hit out at the rocker claiming his 1970s chart-topper, You’re In My Heart, is about her and their four-year relationship, not his beloved football club, . Sir Rod, 80, has previously stated that the song is a tribute to the Glasgow team after passionately supporting them since his youth.

Britt, who played Mary Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974, once threatened to sue Rod, asserting that she was the muse behind some of his most successful hits from his 1977 album Foot Loose and Fancy Free, which features tracks such as Hot Legs, You’re In My Heart, and I Was Only Joking.

The song’s lyrics include: “You’re ageless, timeless, lace and fineness. You’re beauty and elegance…You’re every schoolboy’s dream…You’re Celtic, United, but baby, I’ve decided…You’re the best team I’ve ever seen.”

Speaking to Weekend magazine in 2021, the girl said: “Rod Stewart wrote You’re In My Heart about me but when we split, he said it’s about Celtic FC.

“We had met backstage at his show in LA that I went to with Joan Collins and it was love at first sight.

“We were together for about four years but I made it clear that if he was unfaithful then I wouldn’t stay – he was so I left, no matter how painful it was. A man is a man no matter what his name is.”

Sir Rod has said that his relationship with Britt was a “changing point” in his life and he was left feeling as though he had “lost it”.

Speaking to Chris Evans on his How to Wow podcast in 2020, the Maggie May hitmaker said: “I was believing my own hype. You know, I moved in 1975, I met Britt Ekland, international film star, Bond girl, fell in love. I was Jack the Lad! Who wouldn’t be?

“People used to say, ‘They’re the new Burton and Taylor’ and I believed it. I think I thanked the press for knocking me back down again… no one would tell me what to do, I wish they would sometimes. It was just a self-realisation moment.”

After his relationship with Britt broke down, Rod married his first wife, Alana, in 1979, and they had two children together: Kimberly and Sean.

He then dated model Kelly Emberg for seven years and welcomed daughter Ruby. They split in 1990 and the rocker moved on with Rachel Hunter, whom he married that same year.

They welcomed children Renee and Liam but separated in 1999 before divorcing in 2006. It was then that Rod married Penny Lancaster, and they welcomed sons Alistair and Aiden. Their marriage is still going strong 18 years later.
