A man has been left outraged after allegedly being ordered to repaint his fence because his neighbours don’t like one thing about it.

He explained how he wanted to improve his on a budget in time for summer, and decided to do this by repainting his fence. He went for a brown paint, believing it to be a common and non-offensive colour.

However, his neighbour disagreed and thinks he’s trying to “stand out” by painting it a dark shade compared to their light fences. On he said: “Painted my fence yesterday, apparently this upsets the entire neighbourhood.

“Sitting in the garden and all you hear as people walk past is ‘Why have they done that?’ and ‘Do they want to stand out?’ My fence has been painted brown.”

While some users couldn’t help but laugh at his “entitled neighbours”, others suggested he repaints it, but in a very bright colour. One user said: “Too lazy to paint their own fence, so crying about yours.” Another user added: “Paint it again, bright purple this time.”

A third user joked: “Well if you’re painting it a flamboyant colour like brown, what do you expect? It’s a residential street, not an concert.”

One more user added: “I half painted my fence yesterday, green. I gave up as it was hot and the tub ran out. Neighbour complaining about it because it wasn’t finished and apparently upsetting his OCD. Gonna be p***ed off when I finish the fence in a different shade of green as B&Q have stopped selling the shade I used yesterday.”

It comes after a man decided to paint his pool green to save money – not knowing it would “ruin his neighbour’s entire year”. Taking to , he said: “One of my neighbours complained about our green pool. It had been neglected for the winter and was looking a bit gross. I was actually in the middle of getting the chemicals sorted when an officer from the council turned up to do an inspection.

“I showed her all the chemicals and she was satisfied that I was getting it sorted. A week later, and she’s back. Neighbours have complained again. It turned out the fibreglass in the pool was badly damaged, and we’ve decided to rip it out and start again.

“Neighbour does not like the concrete pool. Council officer mentioned that the neighbour kept going on about how at least the concrete look was better than green. They apparently went on at length about how much they hated looking at a green pool.”

After overhearing the neighbours complain about the colour, the tradesmen said they’d give him a discount if he went through with the green pool. “Green is my favourite colour. I’ve always wanted a green pool. We’re going to start painting next week,” he added.

The tradesmen set to work sealing the pool before setting up their painting equipment – all while the neighbours watched on in horror. He said: “Today the neighbours realised that the pool was going to stay green. I saw them looking over the fence and they did not look happy.

“They told us, ‘Green pools are against the law’. When I asked them to show me what law, they backtracked. They’re going to report us to the council again for painting our pool green.”

Annoyed, his neighbours apparently threatened to “fix” the pool themselves and send some “friends” over to make sure they got the message. “I showed them one of the new security cameras at that point,” he added.

“I reported it to the police who said they’d go round and have a chat to them and also spoke to a lawyer. They confirmed that there is no law against a green pool and he would send a cease and desist letter for us if he could come and swim in the green pool. It should be noted that both the police officer and the lawyer are friends/relatives of the tradies who have worked so hard to get this done. Being nice to people pays off.”
