’s St Albans store is set to close this month, joining 15 other locations across the UK as part of the chain’s ongoing restructuring following its administration. The popular DIY and garden chain has announced it will be closing the Hatfield Road store, only four years after it had reopened.
Affected employees have been given redundancy notices and are already taking place. A spokesperson for Homebase said: “We have announced 16 stores confirmed for closure in March. “Affected team members have been given notice of their effective date of redundancy by their employee representative and store manager, followed by confirmation letters sent to their home address.”

Many shoppers have taken to Facebook and Google Reviews to share their suprise and disappointment at the news.
A Google review stated : “I’m so sad to be losing this store. I’ve used it regularly throughout DIY project’s.The staff here are so friendly and helpful. There have been a lot of bargains to be had, but I’m still very sorry to see it go. May the staff all be okay and be able to move on to better things.”
Another Google review by Martin Jose, wrote: “Overall, it’s been a part of the community, and while it’s sad to see it go, I hope for the best for the owners in their next chapter.”

After going into administration in November, Homebase was partially acquired by CDS Superstores, the parent company of The Range and Wilko, which pledged to rescue up to 70 stores and retain the brand.
However, only 26 locations have been confirmed as saved so far.
