landed a cheeky dig at which cracked up and after his triumph in Nottingham. Price made it six wins in a row against Littler by beating him in the nightly final, and took his opportunity to twist the knife after talking up his talent.

‘The Nuke’ was always going to take some beating in Nottingham, and sure enough he averaged more than a ton against in the quarter-finals and in the semis. The 18-year-old was also in three-figure territory against Price, who took his chances in a 6-3 win despite averaging almost nine points less than his opponent.

Littler now has to go all the way back to the Premier League last April for his last victory over Price, who has had his number ever since. And he let him know as much in conversation with Sky Sports presenter Paton and pundit Mardle, with a clever jibe about Littler’s habits behind the scenes, and how they might have changed before their specific head-to-heads.

“You don’t even know he’s there [in the practice room],” explained ‘The Ice Man’. “He is quiet. He sits on his phone. He probably doesn’t practice until 20 minutes before he plays. But when he knows he needs to play, he gets up for a little bit longer. He was up for an hour before our game!”

Although Price has heaped misery on Littler in their last six meetings, the Welshman still believes his teenage rival will go on to obliterate darts records in the years to come. And he does not think any active throwers, including world No. 1 Humphries, will be able to live with him.

“I wanted to get another win over Luke,” said Price. “He’s the best player in the world at the minute, and he’s going to be for some years. I praise him every single day. I think he’ll beat Phil Taylor’s record of 16 world titles.

“There is nobody in the PDC at the minute who can stop him, there’s only JDC [Junior Darts Corporation] players that can stop him. We can’t stop him. He’s going to get better and better.”

A second nightly win of the season leaves Price third in the Premier League standings, three points behind second-place Humphries and four behind table-topper Littler. Michael van Gerwen occupies the last remaining play-off spot after six weeks of action.
